Caring for 100-year-old Alzheimer’s patient, Maria, is a team effort for her family.
Her daughter and two granddaughters divide the caregiving responsibilities, so someone is always on duty.
For the last six years, they have undertaken this task with love, but it has also meant some deprivation. For example, her granddaughter Hunter, 25, hasn’t
been able to accept full-time work or develop a career. In addition, the three caregivers rarely get to leave the house to have fun as a group, because
someone must always stay home with Maria.
Then the Kathi Koll Foundation heard of their situation and sent $1,500 in caregiver respite to them. The three soon found a loving substitute caregiver
and ventured out together. They spent a day at Disneyland, visited the beach, and simply relaxed together away from home.
“It was a godsend,” Hunter said. “It was beyond amazing. I just can’t thank you enough.”
